The Back to School Collection

//The Back to School Collection

So, Monday morning looms and another term begins. For everyone stepping back into a classroom this week, chin up, don’t work too hard, and remember, it’s just a job. For those new to the profession – or simply looking for a bit of refresher – I wrote a series of back of school posts a few years ago and, having reviewed them, am still happy they represent a pretty solid approach to teaching. Here they are:

  1. Routines
  2. Relationships
  3. Literacy
  4. Planning
  5. Marking

Here too are a series of ‘Five Things” posts that will, I believe, be useful for all teachers:

  1. Reading
  2. Writing
  3. Behaviour management
  4. Principles for effective teaching

I hope these are of some help, but, as with all advice, feel free to take what you think’s useful and reject the rest. Remember, you’re the adult: what children say they want isn’t necessarily the same as what they need.

Best of luck for the year ahead!

    It’s not just a job though, it’s a vocation. There’s a big difference.

      Nah, it’s just a job. Folk with vocations can be dangerous!

        David’s right. Treat it as a job; maintain a sense of distance, & balance. And if you manage that long-term, you may just be able to stay doing it for a lifetime. That’s when you can look back and realise – it was a vocation.

Constructive feedback is always appreciated
